PLiOGRIP EPOXY RESIN PER 205 & PLiOGRIP HARDENER PH 905 ACCELERATOR PH 062 AND PLASTICIZER PER D 072
Warm Curing Liquid Epoxy System for electrical applications
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Pliogrip Epoxy Resin PER 205 / Pliogrip Hardener PH 905 / Pliogrip Accelerator PH 062/ Pliogrip Plasticizer PER D 072 is a low viscosity liquid epoxy system suitable for casting, potting, impregnation and encapsulation of electrical and electronic components by vacuum casting technique. It is also ideally suited for vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) and for casting by pressure gelation technique. This system is characterized by low viscosity of the mix, long pot iife of the mix at room temperature, fast gelling property at higher temperature and high heat distortion temperature of the cast components and excellent electrical and mechanical properties.
APPLICATIONS
Casting of electrical insuiation components, such as switchgear, busing, post-insulators, supports current and voltage transformers. Impregnation of electrical equipment for high temperature application (Up to Class F). Casting of intricate electrical components by pressure gelation technique. Impregnation and encapsulation of electronic components like deflection coils, automotive HT coils, capacitors, for PETP capacitors, fly back transformers of black & white and colour TVs, moped / two wheeler ignition coils, etc.

Addition of plasticizer to the tune of 10-15 parts by weight is recommended for the production of large casting to avoid cracks due to thermal stresses.
FILLERS
Fillers such as silica, talc, mica, alumina etc., can be incorporated in the mix to reduce shrinkage and exothermic heat, improve thermal conductivity and reduce cost. The most commonly used filler is silica flour of particle size BS 200-300 mesh which can be added up to 300-350 parts by weight to the mix. The filler should be dried for 6-8 hours at a temperature of 120-150°C before addition.
POT LIFE
The pot life or usable life of the system is measured as the time taken for the mix to reach viscosity of 1500 cps. The pot life of 400 grams of resin/hardener mix is about 10 days at 30°C. However, addition of accelerator will reduce the pot life. Pot life as a function of accelerator proportion is as under:
EPOXY PER 205 | HARDENER PH 905 | ACCELERATOR PH 062 | POT LIFE AT 65°C HOURS |
100 | 100 | 0.2 | 16 |
100 | 100 | 0.4 | 7 |
100 | 100 | 0.5 | 5 |
(The pot life will increase with addition of filler and lor plasticizer Pliogrip PER D 072.)
MOULD TREATMENT
The moulds are treated with suitable silicon based releasing agent and preheated to above 100°C before the mix is poured.
MIXING AND CASTING PROCEDURE
The resin is heated to around 80°C and then Hardener, dry filler and plasticizer (if Necessary) are added. The mix is continuously stirred under a vacuum of 1-2 torr for about 2 hours. The mix is cooled to around 60°C and the vacuum level is brought down to about 20 torr. Proportionate quantity of accelerator is then added and the mix is stirred for about 5-10 minutes. The mix is now ready for pouring into the preheated moulds.
